Main research areas
My research takes an applied linguistic approach to linguistic phenomena. The focus of my research is usually on the specificities of the Hungarian language, which I try to explore through different disciplines, such as translation studies, lexicography, terminology, technical linguistics, and text linguistics.
The theoretical approach of translation studies helps understand the process of translation and the factors influencing its quality. The examination of translation strategies reveals how professional translators respond to the challenges presented in the text. Translation support investigates various tools and technologies that assist translators in more efficient and accurate work. Quality control of translations uncovers how well the target language text corresponds to the source language text and quality standards. Research on terminological consistency examines the consistent use of professional terms and expressions in translated texts.
The study of dictionaries provides insight into the vocabulary of a particular field, the circumstances of its creation, and its historical and cultural context. Queries through linguistic databases help identify language patterns and analyse language usage patterns.
The LSP is a language system used in a specific area of communication, integrating typical expressions, terminology and stylistic features. The aim of research in the field of LSP is to identify, analyse and interpret linguistic features and describe the specific features and terminology of specialised communication. In addition, research in specialised translation focuses on terminological consistency and translator decision-making. An important field related to LSP teaching is complemented by research on methodology, curriculum development, and the development of learners' competencies in LSP.
Terminology databases store and organise information on specialist terminology. Each database usually contains the terminology of a specific field, industry or discipline and can assist in creating and translating technical texts. Research generally focuses on the databases' accuracy, usability and linguistic aspects. Consistent terminology is an essential feature of monolingual and multilingual text production and implies the consistent use of terminology from a given professional or scientific field in the text. The consistent use of terminology contributes to the comprehensibility of texts.
Text linguistics is the study of texts and their linguistic features. Comparisons between native and translation text production include text structure, use of linguistic devices, stylistic features and communicative intentions. The processibility of texts, the processes and strategies of text production and the linguistic mechanisms underlying human communication may raise exciting research questions. The study of lexical cohesion leads to the exploration of the deeper context of text organisation through the relationships between surface features of the text.
