Main research areas
My field of research covers individual differences within applied linguistics. In recent years, my interest has mostly turned to examining language learning processes from a socio-psychological point of view. During my research, I dealt with the exploration of motivation to learn foreign/second languages and the mapping of what factors influence the motivation of foreign/second language learners of different ages. Since motivation in the classroom is strongly influenced by language teachers, I also deal with teacher motivation in the broadest possible sense. Lately, I have been researching the notion of grit, which is a phenomenon closely related to second language learning motivation. Several of my studies have focused on exploring the process of language learning autonomy, i.e. how language learners take responsibility for their own language learning inside and outside the classroom. I consider it an important task to describe and understand the differences between self-regulating and autonomic learning in pedagogical research studies.
