The focus of my research lies on the difficulties encountered in the translation of cultural references in literary works, especially the so-called examination of cultural realia or culture-specific items.

In translating literary works, especially novels, the translator has to overcome a number of difficulties, which stem in part from differences between the source language and the target language culture. This is because the given phenomenon and its name are either missing from the target culture or they have connotations that do not allow for the literal translation of the word / phrase. The focus of my research is on the translation shifts that enable the translator to provide the most authentic reading experience possible for the target language readership.
