multilingualism

In multilingualism research, we examine the attitudes speakers have towards their individual language repertoires and the languages and speakers in their environment, as well as their cultural elements. We explore the positive and negative emotions, behavioral patterns associated with different languages and speakers, how individuals define their own and others' multilingualism, what knowledge they possess about languages and speakers, and how multilingualism influences the components of their identity.

linguistic landscape

The visual presence of languages in the built environment, public spaces, public services and educational institutions. Exploring which indigenous and minority and foreign languages are present in society's built and public spaces, in educational, cultural and public service institutions, in what discursive functions, at what linguistic levels and in what proportions.

(Bavarian) dialectology

Lexical and grammatical characteristics of Bavarian dialects in Hungary, components and features of syntagmatic and sentence-level collocations and fixed word combinations in Bavarian, categorization of collocations in the Bavarian dialects in Hungary, German colloquial, Bavarian and Hungarian equivalence.

lexicography

Characteristics of macro-, medio-, and micro-structures in printed and online versions of dialect dictionaries. Corpus design for dialect dictionaries, formation of lemma lists, collection of dialectal data, lemma selection, database structure, lemma types, lexicographic examples, illustrations.

terminology-studies

To investigate the morphological, lexical-semantic and syntactic features of the vocabulary of technical-industrial languages. Productive and unproductive modes of vocabulary construction, the linguistic status of vocabulary items (technical, semi-technical, jargon), proper names in the vocabulary of technical and technical-industrial languages. German dialect vocabularies and their lexicographic processing.

language acquisition and language pedagogy

Examining how the German language variants are reflected in educational documents, the classroom processing of diatopic variants of German (didactic and methodological aspects), the preparation and use of supplementary teaching materials for teaching the language variants, grammar and vocabulary of German language varieties in language teaching.

 

language policy and language teaching

The legal and governmental background of teaching German as a foreign language and as a national language, the school contexts of teaching, analysis of public education statistics; changes in German teacher training; textbook supply; documents of the educational process (curricula, framework curricula, local curricula).

onomatology

Examination of the geographical names with regard to their functional-semantic and morphological-lexical characteristics, the motivation of their origin, their Hungarian parallel names.

language biographies

Examining the language portfolio of multilingual speakers in the order of language acquisition and learning. To investigate the narrative frames in which speakers place their acquired languages, the affective, conative and cognitive components of their language descriptions, and the linguistic ideologies that prevail in their narratives.
