Arabic and Islamic Studies
The focus of my research is on the religious and social history and anthropology of the peoples of the Muslim world. Within this vast field, I concentrate on the cultures of the Arabic-speaking populations of the Middle East, as well as the ethnic groups of Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, relying on source material in Arabic, Swahili and Malay/Indonesian.
