My prior field of research is the changing of toponyms (placenames, streetnames etc.) in the 20th century in Eastern Europe, especially in Russia, namely: how the changes in the ideology of legitimation affected the renamings, when they became a mass effect, what is the role of the local and central authorities in the name-changings.
