Pragmatics

My research, which validates the underlying assumptions of functional cognitive linguistics, focuses primarily on pragmatic issues. As a result of this research, I have published a monograph that deals with pragmatic issues in a comprehensive way from a functional cognitive perspective. I have also been involved in the pioneering enterprise of a comprehensive functional cognitive linguistic account of Hungarian, where I have prepared pragmatic chapters of usage-based grammar. My individual research has focused on key pragmatic concepts such as context, revelation, deixis, metapragmatic awareness, irony, person marking, as well as on the point of view, which is also the focus of my thesis. I have explored these research themes in close connection with each other.

Stylistics and tex linguistics

My pragmatically oriented research has been developed in a multidisciplinary way. Studies focusing primarily on the Hungarian language, in fact, together with pragmatics, also validate syntactic and semantic, as well as pragmatic, linguistic and stylistic aspects. The syntactic and semantic aspects have mainly been fruitful in my research on contextualisation and anchoring. The links to textual research have been made possible mainly by my reflections on issues of genre, and the links to stylistic research mainly by my reflections on issues of socio-cultural factors of style.
