Cultural history of the Serbs in the 18th century

The main focus of my research is the cultural history of the Serbian community in Hungary during the 18th century. My work primarily examines the impact of the Habsburg Monarchy's laws and decrees on the Serbian community, with particular emphasis on church and educational reforms.

The analysis centers on how various prohibitions and restrictions—such as the ban on book printing—affected efforts to preserve Serbian identity, language, and culture. I also investigate the role of Russian church books, polemical literature, and the establishment of the first Serbian schools under Russian influence, which contributed to preserving Serbian Orthodox tradition and cultural autonomy within the Habsburg Monarchy. The aim of this research is to thoroughly examine the cultural, religious, and linguistic influences and to demonstrate how, through connections with Russia, the Serbs managed to maintain their spiritual autonomy despite the prohibition on printing and importing books.
