Main research areas
One of the specific and fascinating object types of medieval and early modern archaeology is the stove and stove tile. On the one hand, these finds can be used as pictorial sources of individual eras but at the same time, they are also one of the defining elements of medieval and post-medieval interior furnishing. The former interior can be partially examined from one of the largest archaeological find types since the individual stoves can be reconstructed from the fragments. On the other hand, the conditions of medieval and early modern pottery can also be researched with their help. In the territory of the Hungarian Kingdom, we have relatively few sources that talk about the pottery of the time, so stoves and stove tiles play a primary role in distinguishing individual workshops and workshop districts. By systematically examining individual fragments, the medieval process of stove-making can also be reconstructed. And if we consider the stoves as heating devices in its system, then in the case of individual castles and sites, it is even possible to infer the former function of the various spaces.
Under medieval and early modern archaeology, I primarily deal with castles and their material culture. In addition to stoves, the medieval housing culture and the heating systems of castles are also the basis of my research. In most cases, I dealt with the material culture of different types of castles (for example: noble castles). As a former scholarship recipient of the German Castle Association (Deutsche Burgenvereinigung), I also monitor the results of German castle research. During my research, I always try to compare the finds found in the territory of the Hungarian Kingdom with parallels from Germany. The examination of the churches near the castles complements the research of the castle and its surroundings.
