Many geographical names have multilingual versions. The use of another language variant of a given geographical name depends on a number of factors; familiarity, population ratio, historical grievances. The topic is also topical in different language translations of European Union documents, which justifies research on the topic.

Precarious situations in translatological mediation

During language mediation, translators and interpreters often face precarious situations where the source language text can have unwanted effects in the target language. There are primarily cultural-historical reasons for this. The analysis of the phenomenon can contribute to the acquisition of professional handling of similar situations.
