The History of Hungary between 1526-1570

My main research topic is the period from the Battle of Mohács to the Treaty of Speyer, the events between 1526–1570, primarily in the history of the Kingdom of Hungary, and secondarily in the history of Western Europe through the spheres of influence of the Habsburg dynasty. The focus of my research so far has been on the dual kingship/kingdom and the Hungarian political behaviour and political culture that unfolded in the wake of the Habsburg-Szapolyai rivalry, not only between Ferdinand I. Habsburg and John I. Szapolyai, but also including the warfare in the Northeast region during the reigns of Maximilian I. Habsburg and John (Sigismund) II. Szapolyai. More recently, my research has focused on the Habsburg takeover of Transylvania in the mid-16th century, the attempted unification of the Hungarian Kingdom and the defence against the Ottomans. From a literary-historical point of view, I delved into the history of the creation of the first Hungarian-language drama (Comedy about the betrayal of Menyhárt Balassi...) and the problems raised by the works of Sebestyén Tinódi.
