Markers of epistemic modality in German and Hungarian

My researches focus on modality, especially epistemic modality. I analyse and describe the varied linguistic exponents of this semantic-functional domain, which are organised into categories to a large extent, in German and Hungarian, with special attention to the grammatical markers, i.e. the modal verbs in German and the potentiality suffix -hat/-het in Hungarian.

The category of modal verbs in German

In my research I investigate the system and the organisation of the category of modal verbs in German, its central and peripheral members, as well as their morphosyntactic and especially functional properties.

The status of epistemic modality

During my research I deal with the status of epistemic modality as a semantic-functional domain in relation to modality as the supposed super-category, as well as to evidentiality and its subtypes.
