My research interests are in the areas of Islamic and Jewish Mysticism, Sufism, Andalusian culture, and popular religion in Egypt. I have joined several international research projects (Friedberg Genizah Project of the Ben Zvi Institute, Jerusalem; Hispania Judaica Research Project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, etc.). Currently I participate in the work of a joint project of the CSRS (France) and the CSIC (Spain) on the Jews of the Mediterranean; and also in two projects financed by the Hungarian government. One of these focuses on Hebrew mystical and magical manuscripts preserved in the Kaufmann Collection of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the other studies popular religious beliefs of Upper Egypt.
