Archaeology and History of Rural Settlements in Pannonia

My research investigates how physical space, natural environmental factors, and the social and economic system influenced the evolution and interactions of rural settlements in Roman Pannonia. Lands and the rural landscape was important, as it was the source of taxes and food supplies for the military and towns and also the foundation of wealth. Therefore settlements in this sphere were integral part of the province's life through the inhabitant's economic and social ties. I study how these interactions manifest in the rural archaeological assemblages and settlement patterns, using a landscape archaeological approach. My research combines GIS technologies, archaeological prospections and historical research methods to answer complex social and economic questions.

The topography of the settlement complex of Brigetio

I carry out a comprehensive topographic research on the three-fold (fortress, canabae, civil town) settlement complex of Brigetio and its periphery, focusing primarily on processing past excavation documentation into GIS, the use of non-invasive site location methods, and processing recent excavation data.
