Main research areas
My research focuses on the justification of fundamental political rights -- foremost, political participatory rights such as the right to vote and the right to be elected -- as well as on exploring their limits. In particular, I am interested in foundational issues in political philosophy and politics ethics concerning the reconciliation of equal voting rights, and more broadly, political equality with competent democratic decision-making. The significance of these issues is illustrated by more applied debates in which I intervene on children's demoractic participation, or the justification of enfranchising adults living with severe cognitive disabilities, or the ethical questions of the limits of support that the latter group are owed in exercising their right to vote.
My research in political ethics focuses on moral issues of participation in and abstension from the electoral process: exploring the moral norms that apply to voters; moral questions about voting as a form of protest; resolving moral conflicts between the voter's role and other roles; the specific moral dilemmas of voters voting in non-ideal democracies burdened with background injustices; and the ethical issues of candidacy and politic al representation, as well as campaign ethics -- including the duties of campaign mediators (press, media, online social media platforms).
