Finnish and Estonian history; comparative study of Estonian, Finnish and Hungarian history between the two world wars; the analysis of the minority policy of Estonia and Finland between the two world wars; the history of research on Finnish and Estonian history in Hungary; Estonian-Finnish-Hungarian political and cultural relations; the history of the Baltic Finnish peoples; the prehistory of the Baltic Finnish peoples.

My research focuses on Finnish and Estonian history. Within this, a comparative study of Estonian, Finnish and Hungarian history between the two world wars from various aspects has recently come to the fore. For a long time, the analysis of the minority policy of Estonia and Finland in the mentioned period and the presentation of the contemporary response in Hungary played a central role in my scientific work as well. I also deal with the history of research on Finnish and Estonian history in Hungary and with Estonian-Finnish-Hungarian political and cultural relations. In addition, I have been following the researches into the history of the smaller Baltic Finnish peoples for decades, especially the prehistory of the Baltic Finnish peoples.
