Literary Theory

The two most significant discourses in late 20th-century literary theory, literary hermeneutics and deconstruction, are both defined by the foundations of Saussurean semiology and the literary semiology built upon them. My literary analyses have developed by focusing on the tension-filled dialogue between these two major discourses, in the form of concrete literary analyses as well as metatheoretical analyses. The latter interpreted the works of significant Hungarian literary scholars, also utilizing the practice of discourse analysis.

literary history

In 20th-century French prose, my analyses have primarily focused on Marcel Proust's epochal great novel, "À la recherche du temps perdu." In 20th-century Hungarian prose, I have concentrated on Dezső Kosztolányi, about whom I have published analytical monographs on two of his novels. I have also attempted a comparative analysis of the prose of Proust and Kosztolányi. From 20th-century Hungarian poetry, besides a few studies (on Ottó Orbán and Lajos Kassák), I recently published a monograph on the poetry of Attila József. I have also been extensively dealing with the prose of Péter Esterházy, primarily with his first novel, "Termelési-regény." (Novel of Production).
