My research focuses on the process of urbanization in Hungary in the 18th and 20th centuries, with special attention to the changes in the urban society, the transformation of the bourgeoisie, which had been settled with old privileges, and the problems of the emergence of the modern bourgeoisie and middle class. I examine the emergence of modern nationalism in the context of the transformation of urban society.
