His research focuses on the territorial, historical and social contexts of place names, and in most of his work he analyzes the dialectal distribution of place names on computer databases and digital maps. In his studies, he dealt with the historical place names of Transylvania, and in recent years he has been investigating the place names of the settlements between the Danube and the Tisza.

He participated in the field work of the new Hungarian dialect atlas and worked on the creation of Internet dialect maps. In his analytical papers, he examines dialect phenomena together with their historical and social context.
